It's the last official day of spring break, because tomorrow is Sunday, the first day of the week back to work. Sigh. I had the greatest conversation with my sister, Dale! Wow! Talk about life moments. She is on the cusp of her new life.

Well, new is relative and she is my relative. I can't remember the comedian who said, on a New Year's day many years ago, that it seemed like we were stuck with a used year and only the numbers were changed on the calendar. I am now at an age where that is okay with me.

More another day!

Post 2009 (Ha Ha - a PUN!)

There was a brief discussion in the local newspaper about what to call the 20 zero, zero's. I kinda like the double aughts! Like we aught to have...(add what ever pops into your head). It's kinda like "should have". You (and I) should never "should" on yourself.

My family and I went to Cuba for a week in December. It was a nice vacation but not what I expected. But upon reflection I wasn't sure what I was expecting. It's a communist country which has stood up to the US for 50 years! But it is not thriving and it is coming into this millennium as a very poor country. But the beach at Veradero is breathtaking!

I've also had a life altering surgery. At least it's supposed be life altering. I have to actively alter my eating and life style. I had most of my stomach removed in a sleeve gastrectomy. Hmmmm. I am fuller faster! I had lost 5 pounds while in Cuba (on junk food, just lots of rum)! But I've lost another 20 since then. I look different and feel pretty cranky. We'll see if I can make this work. I need some more time on earth and I need to make it happen.

'Nuff said.

Manifesting Destiny

Manifest Destiny was a thought in the far past. We had to study it in History 9 or 10. It was US history. We studied that a lot even though I was living in Ottawa at the time.

To quote Wikipedia:
The term was first used in 1845 by John O'Sullivan, an American newspaper editor who was writing about the proposed annexation of Texas. O'Sullivan stated that it was America's “manifest destiny to overspread the continent.” The editorial suggested that through expansion, the United States could become a recognized political and social superpower. America had, in fact, O'Sullivan argued, been uniquely chosen for the task of expanding Westward, driving out the wilderness and establishing civilization.

My daughter, Leanne, once wanted to rule the country and/or the world. But every good dictator or saviour needs a "Manifesto". That which will explain their philosophy ad why their way is the right way.

We started a Manifest Dysentery file on the desktop of the computer and it allowed us to free associate and write about what ever entered our mind.

Dysentery is what it is. We may need oral rehydration therapy if it runs (ha ha - a pun) away with itself and I hope it does.
